Although burnout has been widely investigated quantitatively, limited evidence has explored the lived experiences of mental health nurses in Indonesia. This study aimed to explore nurses’ experiences of burnout and the coping strategies they used to maintain their professional roles. A qualitative exploratory study was conducted in a provincial psychiatric hospital in Indonesia. Participants were registered mental health nurses with at least one year of clinical experience who had experienced occupational burnout. Purposive sampling was used to recruit participants. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and focus group discussions and analyzed using thematic analysis. Trustworthiness was established through member checking, source triangulation, audit trails, and researcher reflexivity. Four major themes emerged: (1) emotional exhaustion caused by prolonged exposure to psychiatric care demands; (2) organizational factors contributing to burnout, including heavy workloads, rotating shifts, and inadequate staffing; (3) psychological and professional consequences affecting nurses’ well-being and quality of care; and (4) adaptive coping strategies, including peer and family support, spirituality, emotional regulation, and professional commitment. Participants described burnout as a gradual process that challenged their emotional resilience while strengthening their professional identity through effective coping mechanisms. Burnout among mental health nurses is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by organizational, interpersonal, and individual factors. Strengthening psychological support, ensuring adequate staffing, promoting supportive leadership, and implementing resilience-building programs are essential to improve nurses’ well-being and sustain high-quality psychiatric nursing care.2026-11-04T08:41:42+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/JKS/article/view/886Reducing Fall Risk in Older Adults Through Balance Exercises: A Literature Review2026-11-04T14:43:49+07:00Sitti Johri Naselasitti.johri@gmail.comAmelia Uluelangamel@gmail.comJenar Yaminjenar@gmail.comCut Mutia Tatisinacut.tatisina@gmail.comNur Baharia Marasabessynur.marasabessy@gmail.comAuditory The risk of falls is a common health problem among the elderly due to decreased musculoskeletal function and impaired balance. This condition can lead to injury, disability, and even death. One effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce the risk of falls is balance exercise. This study aims to review studies analyzing the effectiveness of balance exercise in reducing the risk of falls in the elderly based on the results of previous research. This study used a literature review method by searching articles from the Google Scholar and ResearchGate databases. The search was conducted using the PICO format, namely Population (elderly), Intervention (balance exercise), Comparison (-), and Outcome (reduced risk of falls). Inclusion criteria included articles in Indonesian or English published between 2021 and 2025 with elderly subjects. A total of five articles met the criteria and were analyzed descriptively. Of the five articles reviewed, all showed that balance exercise has a significant effect on improving balance and reducing the risk of falls in the elderly. This exercise has also been shown to increase lower extremity muscle strength, motor coordination, and self-confidence in elderly activities. Balance exercise is effective in improving postural balance and reducing the risk of falls in the elderly. This exercise can be part of a fall prevention program that is easy for health workers to implement in the community and health care facilities. The family is a support system in the life of people with hypertension, so that their condition does not get worse and avoid complications due to hypertension. If people with hypertension do not prevent and treat their hypertension optimally, people with hypertension will be at risk of experiencing complications. This study was to determine the relationship between family support and hypertension control in the Benteng Health Center area, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City. This study uses a quantitative method, this type of research is analytic with a cross sectional approach. The population of this study were 80 hypertensive patients in the Benteng health center area. The sample of this research is 63 respondents. Most of the elderly received good family support, namely 38 elderly (60.3%) and most of the elderly had good hypertension control, namely 44 elderly (69.8%). The p value is 0.008, which means p <0.05 and the correlation coefficient is 1.000, which means that there is a relationship between family support and hypertension control in the elderly. Control of hypertension must at least be accompanied by a good family and also good motivation from the family. The advice given to the family is that it is hoped that the family will increase support for the elderly who suffer from hypertension, so that hypertension control is better.2026-11-04T09:26:08+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/JKS/article/view/878An Overview of Serum Creatinine Levels Among Active Smokers in Suli Village, Salahutu Subdistrict2026-11-04T14:43:49+07:00Angelika Ririn Sahetapyangelikaririnsahetapy@gmail.comZulfikar Peluwzulfikarpeluw@poltekkes-maluku.ac.idSmoking is one of the risk factors that may affect kidney health due to exposure to various toxic substances contained in cigarette smoke, including nicotine, carbon monoxide, and heavy metals such as lead (Pb). Continuous exposure to these substances may induce oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, hemodynamic changes, and vascular damage, potentially affecting renal perfusion and reducing the glomerular filtration rate. Serum creatinine is one of the laboratory parameters used to assess kidney function and may provide an initial indication of potential filtration impairment. This study aimed to describe serum creatinine levels among active smokers in Suli Village, Salahutu District. This descriptive study involved 20 active smokers selected using purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Serum creatinine levels were examined using the Jaffe method with a BA-200 Biosystems Chemistry Analyzer. The results showed that 15 respondents (75%) had serum creatinine levels within the normal range, while 5 respondents (25%) had serum creatinine levels above the normal range. Abnormally elevated creatinine levels were found among respondents who were older, had smoked for more than 5 years, consumed a higher number of cigarettes, and had inadequate water intake. The findings indicate that most active smokers had serum creatinine levels within the normal range; however, 25% of respondents had elevated creatinine levels that warrant attention. These findings highlight the importance of education regarding the impact of smoking on kidney health and the need for regular kidney function monitoring, particularly among smokers with long-term and high-intensity smoking habits.2026-11-04T09:49:57+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/JKS/article/view/882Preferences For Pulmonary Exercises In Lung Cancer Patient: A Systematic Review2026-11-04T14:43:49+07:00Nurma Yuni Pary Usemahunurma.usemahu@poltekkes-maluku.ac.idNadhia Elsa Silvianinadhiaelsasilviani@gmail.comLung cancer survivors often experience persistent physical limitations after treatment. Workload is one of the most frequently identified occupational factors contributing to burnout among nurses, particularly in inpatient settings. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between workload and burnout syndrome among nurses working in the inpatient wards of Rumkit TK II Prof. Dr. J. A. Latumeten Ambon. An analytic observational study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted involving 71 inpatient nurses. Data were analyzed using the Fisher's exact test to determine the association between workload and burnout syndrome. The findings showed that nurses with a light workload predominantly experienced low levels of burnout, whereas those with a heavy workload were more likely to experience high levels of burnout. Among nurses with a heavy workload, 90.9% experienced high levels of burnout, and the association between workload and burnout syndrome was statistically significant (p = 0.001). These findings indicate that workload is significantly associated with burnout syndrome among inpatient nurses. Therefore, effective workload management, appropriate staffing, and psychological support are essential strategies for preventing burnout and promoting the well-being of nurses and the quality of hospital nursing services..2026-11-04T10:35:26+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/JKS/article/view/765Phenomenon Of Vaping Among Adolescents And Its Implication For Nursing Practice: Scoping Review2026-11-04T14:43:50+07:00Theofilya Amandya Kissyaamandyakissya@gmail.comRony A Latumenasserony@gmail.com<p><em>The increasing prevalence of electronic cigarette use (vaping) among adolescents has become a major global public health concern, yet its implications for nursing practice remain insufficiently synthesized. This scoping review aimed to map current evidence on vaping among adolescents and examine its implications for nursing practice. The review was conducted following the Arksey and O’Malley framework and reported according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A comprehensive search of major databases identified peer-reviewed, open-access articles published between 2020 and 2025 focusing on adolescent vaping. Five studies met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that vaping is the most commonly used nicotine product among adolescents, with initiation driven by peer influence, social acceptability, flavored products, and misperceptions of harm. Evidence also demonstrates associations between adolescent vaping and increased risks of nicotine dependence, initiation of combustible cigarette smoking, respiratory symptoms, and psychosocial problems. The reviewed literature highlights the critical role of nurses in early identification, health education, counseling, and prevention, particularly in school and community settings, while also revealing gaps in nursing-specific guidelines and training. These findings underscore the need to strengthen nursing education and evidence-informed interventions to address adolescent vaping effectively.</em></p>2026-11-04T10:41:16+07:00##submission.copyrightStatement##https://jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/JKS/article/view/887Effectiveness of Classical Music Therapy in Reducing the Signs and Symptoms of Hallucinations: A Literature Review2026-11-04T14:43:50+07:00Cut Mutia Tatisinacut.tatisina@gmail.comAdithia Rizki Kabauikii@gmail.comSitti Johri Naselasitti.johri@gmail.comJenar Yaminjenar@gmail.comAuditory hallucinations are among the most common symptoms experienced by individuals with severe mental disorders and require effective, safe, and evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions to complement antipsychotic therapy. This literature review aimed to evaluate the consistency and effectiveness of classical music therapy in reducing the signs and symptoms of auditory hallucinations. A descriptive narrative literature review was conducted by synthesizing evidence from five studies published between 2017 and 2025 using a thematic synthesis approach. The findings consistently demonstrated that classical music therapy effectively reduced the signs and symptoms of auditory hallucinations, with three studies conducted in Indonesia reporting statistically significant improvements (p = 0.000). The therapeutic effects are attributed to several physiological mechanisms, including the stimulation of alpha brain wave activity, suppression of sympathetic nervous system activity, promotion of relaxation, and attentional redirection (grounding), which collectively contribute to reducing hallucinatory experiences. Overall, classical music therapy is a safe, practical, and effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention. Integrating this intervention into psychiatric nursing care programs may enhance symptom management, promote relaxation, and improve the quality of life of patients experiencing auditory hallucinations..
